Fraunhofer MEVIS

Fraunhofer MEVIS, Institute for Medical Image Computing (FME), is part of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung. The research focuses on computer-assistance for medical diagnosis and therapy based on imaging, quantitative image analysis and visualisation, computer-aided training, and medical workstation design. FME develops solutions for clinically relevant problems. One of its core research activities is directed towards surgical risk analysis, planning, and intraoperative support besides computer-assisted breast and prostate cancer diagnostics. FME has successfully acquired and managed research projects worth more than 13 million EUR in the past decade.
FME has a multidisciplinary staff of more than 40 computer scientists, physicists, mathematicians, engineers, and medical doctors. Research and development is performed in close collaboration with more than 100 clinical, scientific and industrial partners worldwide.


Key staff:

Prof. Dr. Tobias Preusser (TRANS-FUSIMO Coordinator) is professor for mathematical modelling of medical processes at Jacobs University Bremen. He is the head of the group “Modelling and Simulation” and member of the management board of FME. The research group of Prof. Preusser has been working on the patient specific modelling and simulation of thermal ablation for more than ten years now.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Guenther (Technical Coordinator) is professor for MR imaging and spectroscopy at the University of Bremen, head of the MR physics group and member of the management board at FME. He has extensive experience in development of MRI sequences and hybrid ultrasound and MR imaging.

Sabrina Haase (TRANS-FUSIMO Project Manager) is mathematician working on modelling and simulation of thermal ablation. She has also experience in optimization. Before being a project manager of TRANS-FUSIMO, she has been project manager of smaller sized projects.

Michael Schwenke (Developer) is computer scientist. He has experience in the design and implementation of software assistants and in the integration of model components.
