The Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Hospital in Frankfurt/ Main has 25 medical departments with 1169 beds covering almost every area of medicine. In addition to providing treatment and care for patients, research and teaching are carried out here as well. The Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Hospital Frankfurt/ Main offers referring physicians and patients a complete spectrum of radiological diagnosis which stretches from conventional x-ray including mammography, modern cross sectional imaging like sonography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to interventional treatments.
Our institute offers the whole spectrum of diagnostic and interventional radiology of world-class standard. Our department is one of the leading centers with experience in MR-guided laser-induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) for the treatment of liver and lung tumors. To this day more than 2300 patients have been treated with laser ablation. We have also treated more than 100 patients with radiofrequency and more than 300 patients with microwave tumor ablation. There is also a strong previous experience in with MR-guided interventions and more than 500 interventions have been done in MRI.

Key staff:

PD Dr. med. Stephan Zangos completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology in 2005 and is a Senior Physician since 2006 at the Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology with special focus on interventional oncology. His research interest focuses on the topic "MR-guided interventions" and he received habilitation in this field in 2007. He is member of the German Radiological Society (DRG) and the European Society of Radiology (ESR), German Society of Interventional Radiology and Minimally Invasive Therapy (DeGIR) and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE).
